For this set, I played on a Xone:96, directly after Patrick Russell and before Erika and then Derek Plaslaiko. For there to be no dead air between sets, no mixer swaps, it was important that I play on their preferred mixer. About a month before No Way Back, I set up a replica of what would be the NWB booth in my studio, 4 CDJ 3000s and the Xone:96 and I found I really missed having the effects I would have with a V10, but I fell in love with the filters and EQ, so I decided to add some effects pedals that I use in my live show, a Strymon Big Sky reverb and El Capistan delay, and then came up with a way to have them all within my reach. With this set up, I could play, loop, process, and actively dub the music in real time as I felt inspired. With this crowd, hearing the music through their perception entirely changed the way I played, more powerful than any other sonic processor or technology. Every instrument and processor really modified and enhanced the sound, bringing it deeper within the dancers’ consciousness, and stretching that connection out throughout the universe. From the very first cut, the new Architectural on Delsin, I felt an entire shift in my pacing, slowing it down, and of what I wanted to play and where I wanted to go, just from the crowd's reactions to each aspect of the sound as it came in. I played new things I’d just mixed in the studio for forthcoming IT releases, like Hodge’s forthcoming “Tension / Release”, some edits, hardware remasters, and my remix for Andy Toth’s new release “Mind Lock”. You never know what will happen at your set for No Way Back, it’s a moment that is almost impossible to articulate without experiencing it — here is a moment from that ever surprising and inspiring night.
