I.T. Radio: Carl Craig

Live from the Motor City, the singular Detroit producer and DJ takes BMG and Erika on a voyage to Planet E and beyond.

Few figures in Detroit have been as influential or creative as Carl Craig. Mentored by Derrick May, it wasn’t long before Craig leapfrogged “the Innovator” with some truly innovative music of his own. Whether under his mess of monikers or his own name, the man dubbed C2 greatly expanded the possibilities within house and techno on eternal 12”s and classic albums like Landcruising and More Songs About Food and Revolutionary Art. He’s continually pushed himself outside his comfort zone – examples include rewiring his own debut album, creating club-swallowing remixes that stand the test of time and recontextualizing the Deutsche Grammophon archives alongside fellow techno master Moritz Von Oswald. Craig is also responsible for Planet E, a definitive Detroit label with timeless records by Moodymann, Recloose, Urban Tribe, Kenny Larkin, and C2 himself. Though now based in Spain, Craig is back in Detroit for the moment, joining Erika and his old friend and colleague BMG live in our studio for a very special guest appearance ahead of Movement 2018.
